Description-Bio :
Hui-neng (638-713 AD), a Patriarch of Zen Buddhism, is considered as the greatest of the Ch'an Masters. When he was very young, he started selling firewood to survive, as his father died. Once he heard someone reciting text of sutras and his mind was at once became enlightened.
Description-Teaching :
Learned Audience, our essence of mind [literally, self-nature], which is the seed or kernel of enlightenment [bodhi], is pure by nature, and by making use of this mind alone, we can reach buddhahood directly. Now let me tell you something about my own life and how I came into possession of the esoteric teaching of the Dhyana school.

Chien-chih Seng-ts'an, born in 520 AD, received a title of Chien-chih ch'an-shih, after his death in 606 AD. He was the Third Chinese Patriarch of Chan after Bodhidharma. When he went to the second Patriarch, he was a Buddhist layman over forty years of age.
